Dispatcher / 911 Operator Exam
Overview
The written Emergency Dispatcher/911 Operator exams are required
for entry-level paid positions. The exams vary but
all test your ability to read and understand English,
as well as your capacity to learn and perform the work
of an Emergency Dispatcher/911 Operator.
Most exams include questions about the following: understanding
job information; rules and regulations to job situations;
recognizing appropriate behavior in job situations. In
addition to the written portion, you must also participate
in an interview and a physical ability test in which
you simulate a dispatcher’s actual job tasks.

Test Structure
The structure of the written Emergency Dispatcher/911
Operator Exam consists of two model exams. They are
multiple choice, one 80 question/3 hour and another
120 question/2 hour 30 min testing on: typing, reading,
comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, clerical accuracy,
and more.
Scoring
You must achieve a mark of 70 percent in order to pass
and move on to the next step of the application process
- the physical test, medical examination, and psychological
interview.
